Today they are substituted with wooden trunks, but hand made bee baskets were once the rule for bee keeping. Called TRMKA, the baskets are still used in Delchevo, Macedonia:
The oldest bee keeper in Macedonia has 94 years and actively takes care of his bees. His vitality is probably due to consuming a lot of honey, or to the nice climate and fresh air in Delchevo. We truly envy him <3
